Cà rốt

What kind of language are you using? The phonetic way of saying Cà Rốt is depend of language are you using. In case you are an English speaker then it will be "Kah Rot" but of course there is no direct phonetic translation from Vietnamese to English because English speakers can't emphasis the accents we speak. here is how a Vietnamese says it, I recorded myself and posted up Youtube. My pronunciation is not the best with any words start with "r" but understandable to almost if not all Vietnamese. Hope this help!Trongphu (thảo luận) 00:28, ngày 17 tháng 12 năm 2012 (UTC)

You mean how to pronounce it like how do I say letter "X" if it stands alone? How to say the alphabet itself is somewhat different from if the alphabet is attached to different alphabet as in words. If it is used in any words then X would pronounce the same just as x or s like in sand, xerosis not sh. There is one minor attention about it is x is never at the end of the word in Vietnamese, it is always start out as the first letter of a word. In English when the x is at the end of a word like in "fax" then the pronunciation is different from the X in Vietnamese. If it stands alone then it would pronounce like sờ. I'm Southerner Vietnamese. I think the North also pronounce the same way as we do in most cases but different in "something" that hard to explain. Like different regions of France pronounce French the same way but sound somewhat different.Trongphu (thảo luận) 21:54, ngày 22 tháng 12 năm 2012 (UTC)

I'm not the linguist so I'm not good at explaining. Both "sook sick" or "sook sit" both sound the same in Vietnamese. In Vietnam, we don't have the sound k, c, sh, s... at the end of the word. I can easily do it again but it doesn't matter if I do it again. It would still sound the same, it is just how I sound like. vie-pron

Thank you for taking an interest in the {{vie-pron}} template system here. Most of the edits you made were good changes that made the output more accurate. However, there were a problems with a few of your edits.

Regarding {{vie-pron/VieC2}}, as I discussed here in Vietnamese, I disagree that words like "rách" and "ảnh" end in /c/ and /ɲ/, respectively. In "rách", for example, the dorsum (middle) of the tongue touches the velum, not the palate. (One could argue that the dorsum is spread somewhat broadly, enough to come close to the palate, in order to make the preceding /j/.) The mouth forms a /k/, which is why there is no difference between the "ch" and "c" in "rách cảnh", and no difference between the "ch" in "rách cảnh" and the "ch" in "rách". Similarly, "canh ạ" is homophonous with "cay ngạ", at least when read at a decent clip.

Also, {{vie-pron/VieWVG/uì}} and {{vie-pron/VieWVG/uy}} both call {{vie-pron/VieWVG/T}}, whose parameters accept individual Vietnamese letters, not IPA characters. vie-pron/VieWVG/T is only used to insert combining diacritics for certain tones in the northern accents.

When working on the vie-pron templates, please try to make your changes all at the same time or as close to each other as possible. The templates are used on tens of thousands of entries, each of which needs to be reprocessed every time the templates change. By batching up your edits, you enable MediaWiki to process each entry fewer times. Typically, highly visible templates such as these are fully protected, so that only administrators can edit them, but we really want to encourage contributions from IPA enthusiasts like you.

Unfortunately, the whole set of templates is sorely lacking in documentation. Rather than groping around in the dark with trial-and-error edits, please discuss your proposed changes beforehand, either with me or at Thảo luận Bản mẫu:vie-pron. Most importantly, please indicate which word or pattern you are trying to improve. Otherwise, I have no good way of checking for unintended side effects. Moreover, I'd like to keep these templates in sync with the Lua port (login required), which will replace these templates once the Scribunto extension is installed here. So it's imperative that I understand what you're trying to do with each edit.
